1. How does solar power work?
When sunlight hits a solar cell on the photovoltaic (PV) module, electrons are moved into direct current (DC) electricity. The DC current then runs through the electrical conduit into the converter. It is here that the current is converted from DC to alternating current (AC) electricity for household use.
2. What type of impact does switching to solar have on public health and the environment?
Generating electricity from renewable energy rather than fossil fuels offers a vast and constantly replenished energy resource supply that has significant public health benefits. The air and water pollution emitted by coal and natural gas plants is linked to breathing problems, neurological damage, heart attacks and cancer.* Solar energy systems generate electricity with no associated air pollution emissions.
*Economic Value of U.S. Fossil Fuel Electricity Health Impacts
Solar energy is environmentally friendly for many reasons. First, it doesn’t require water to operate. Fossil fuels can have a significant negative impact on the environment straining water supplies by competing with agriculture, drinking water systems and other important water needs. Second, it does not pollute sources of drinking water. Natural gas extraction by hydraulic fracturing (fracking) requires large amounts of water and all thermal power plants, including those powered by coal, gas, and oil, withdraw and consume water for cooling.
3. Do I have to mount the solar panels on my roof?
Today’s improved panel designs and integrated roof tiles create a more aesthetically pleasing display that looks more like an integrated part of your home. However, if you prefer to avoid a roof-mounted system, SunCraft Solar also has other options, including ground, pole and trellis mounted systems.
4. How will adding a solar system save me money?
Solar energy allows you to take control of your energy bills. Many homeowners and business owners report that they have cut their energy bills between 50 and 90 percent.
5. How much money will I save with a new solar system?
It depends. If your energy bill is $400 per month, installing solar panels can cut your monthly bill by 50% to $200 per month. That’s a savings of $2400 per year. If you have a business that spends $1000 per month on energy and you can lower that number to $500 per month, that’s $6000 per year in savings, thanks to a solar energy solution. The amount will also vary based on constant fluctuations in energy prices, how much energy your home or business consumes, your structure’s position related to the sun, unpredictable weather, and a number of other factors.
6. How long does it take to install a SunCraft Solar system?
It depends on the size of the job. Your SunCraft Solar energy specialist will provide you with regular updates as you move from electric to solar energy.
7. How is it possible to offset my monthly electric bill?
When the bi-directional meter on your home begins to spin backwards, then you are generating more electricity than your household uses. This surplus electricity is credited against your monthly bill, allowing you to completely offset your monthly payment.
8. When will I be able to see savings off my energy bill?
As soon as you flip the switch, you will begin to see savings.
9. Should I lease or buy a solar system?
Restructuring your energy debt is a smart decision. Whether you buy or lease, adding a solar system to your home or business means that you can invest now in your home and family—not your electric company. Choosing the “right” option is a personal choice that just depends on your own needs. If you’re on the fence, the following solar energy information related to leasing and ownership may be helpful.
